About Carolina Antique Maps & Prints
A specialist dealer in antique maps, prints, and works on paper — rooted in Charleston, South Carolina.
Our Gallery
Carolina Antique Maps & Prints is a Charleston-based gallery specializing in original antique maps, botanical prints, natural history illustrations, and decorative works on paper from the fifteenth through the nineteenth centuries.
Located in the historic Catfish Row district of Charleston, we have spent decades building relationships with collectors, institutions, and fellow dealers across the country. Our inventory is carefully selected for quality, rarity, and historical significance — with a particular emphasis on maps and prints relating to the American South, the Caribbean, and the natural world.
We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and by appointment. We welcome visitors, inquiries, and the opportunity to share our passion for these remarkable objects.
Areas of Expertise
Antique Maps
Original engraved and lithographed maps from the age of exploration through the nineteenth century, with special depth in maps of the Americas, the Caribbean, and the American South.
Botanical Prints
Hand-colored botanical illustrations from landmark publications including works by Georg Dionysius Ehret, Pancrace Bessa, George Brookshaw, and other masters of the genre.
Natural History
Original plates from the great natural history publications — birds, fish, mammals, and flora — by Catesby, Audubon, Bloch, Edwards, and their contemporaries.
Sea Charts & Nautical
Rare nautical charts and coastal surveys, including works by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey and the Spanish Dirección de Hidrografía.
Charleston & the South
Views, portraits, and decorative prints relating to Charleston and the broader American South, including works by Elizabeth O'Neill Verner and other regional artists.
Provenance & Authenticity
Every piece we offer is an original antique — not a reproduction. We provide detailed condition reports and, where known, full provenance histories. Our descriptions note paper type, printing technique, hand-coloring, and any restoration or conservation work.
We stand behind every item we sell. If you have questions about a specific piece, we are happy to provide additional photographs, condition details, or scholarly references.
